The influence of whey protein intake timing after and before exercise
Abstract
Introduction: Nutrition plays a fundamental role on the hypertrophy process, albeit many factors are related to exercise results. The timing of ingestion of protein supplements after or before exercise influences the hypertrophy resulting from exercise. Among the most utilized protein supplements, is whey protein, the subject of this paper. Objective: to investigate on current literature, the relation between the intake timing of whey based supplements and the lean body mass increase on subjects. Literature review: the investigated studies related the time of ingestion of whey protein around resistance exercise and the resulting anabolic effects. Conclusion: whey supplementation, taken immediately before or after exercise enhances the anabolic response, enhancing strength and hypertrophy.
