Abstract

Background: Dietetic restriction in combination with exercise, and well known as a tool to achieve weight loss and caloric restriction can decrease up to 40% in daily energy. Studies have suggested a benefit of minimal carbohydrate (CHO) supplementation in some performance measures. Purpose: The aims of this review was to evaluate the effects of DR in eutrophic trained male and to guide further studies with this group. Methods: This systematic review was established through database searches performed from 2013 to October 2018 (5 years) using the terms dietetic restriction, or energy, or strength training, or resistance training. The eligible studies (n=5) were performed in male human adult (≥18 years.), energy-restricted, performing resistance or strength training. Results: Body fat was decreased (0.7–10.0%) in every group of the studies analyzed (n=5) and fat-free mass didn’t present significative change (p>0,58) (59,9 vs. 58,9 kg). The individual of studies (n=5) did not have high body fat and was submitted to discrete CR (according to sport), without new training applied, they consumed a smaller number of macronutrients. Conclusion: Caloric restriction promoted a reduction in body composition, noting that nutritional prescriptions are important for the physical performance of the athlete.
