Abstract

Automation of daily tasks and current sedentary lifestyle are determinants of the obesity epidemic. The genotype inherited of our ancestors, who have high energy expenditure to maintain survival, manifests regarding nowadays physical inactivity and is consider as the main cause of obesity. Weight loss in obese individuals is a key goal, and caloric restriction followed by exercise are the first option of treatment. Endurance exercise associated to resistance exercise has been much indicated for obese patients, due to increased caloric expenditure promoted by one and the improvement in the basal metabolism of the other. Considerations about training programs, exercise effects and obesity challenges are presented in this review article.
