Culinary skills among bodybuilders
Abstract
The development of high-quality culinary skills can be a powerful ally for those who engage in physical activities for the purpose of improving their health. The study's goal was to characterize the culinary abilities of bodybuilders in this way. This is a cross-sectional observational study involving both male and female bodybuilders. The Brazilian Questionnaire of Culinary Skills and Healthy Eating (QBHC), which can be completed online, was used to collect data. The study included 81 people with an average age of 31.27 years, 88% of whom had been exercising for more than a year and 80% of whom claimed to know how to cook. In terms of culinary abilities, those who had more time to cook had greater cooking self-efficacy (p<0.008), and those who spent more time in minutes at the gym had higher self-efficacy in fruit and vegetable consumption (p<0.033). Most bodybuilders, regardless of gender or marital status, are more confident in their cooking abilities, according to the findings. Individuals with more time available to prepare and those who spend more time at the gym were more likely to engage in the culinary practice of eating fresh foods.
