Abstract

Introduction: Immunoglobulin A (IgA) are portions of proteins produced by the immune system. Its deficiency causes infections. In order to minimize them are suggested the supplementation of probiotics and practice of physical exercises. Objective: To evaluate whether there are changes in serum IgA and consequent improvement of immunity by probiotics supplementation and / or by the encouragement of physical exercise. Methods: The study was divided into four experimental conditions. At the beginning of each step, we performed a biochemical test for the assessment of serum IgA.1st session -supplementation of probiotics and swimming. 2nd -supplementation of probiotics. 3rd -swimming. 4th -control period. Materials: The pool where the evaluated swan was covered, heated to 26º C and it`s length was 25 meters. Serum concentrations of IgA were evaluated by biochemical tests. Each capsule of probiotic supplementation had five billion lactobacilli divided in five strains. Results: Supplementation of probiotics and practice of swimming increased serum levels of IgA and decreased the incidence of infection. Conclusion: There are still few studies devoted to investigate the response of IgA during the exercise, however the use of probiotics shows good evidence proving tobe beneficial to strengthening the body's defenses.
