Effects of ingestion of beet juice (Beta Vulgaris L.) in physical exercise practitioners
Abstract
The use of ergogenic resources has been employed through dietary manipulations capable of delaying the appearance of fatigue and increasing the contractile power of the muscle, improving physical work. In this context, beetroot juice has shown effects capable of improving performance in athletes. With this, we aimed to investigate the benefits of beet juice for practitioners of physical exercise. The study carried out is a systematic review, elaborated with a detailed selection of scientific articles. The study aimed to map works that addressed the benefits of beetroot juice for physical exercise practitioners. The research used the PICOT strategy and followed the methods established by the Preferred Reporting Items in Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for its structuring. 10 studies were analyzed that showed positive ergogenic effects with the ingestion of beetroot juice, such as an increase in the vasodilator potential and improvement in resistance, power and strength in intermittent exercises with high intensity and with a short rest period. With this, it was possible to conclude that the inclusion of beetroot juice in the athlete's diet demonstrates benefits on the execution of exercises and can, therefore, optimize results of different sports modalities.
