Knowledge about nutrition of the practitioners of strength training of the secretariat of state of sports from Distrito Federal
Abstract
A nutrition education directed to the exercise is of paramount importance for achieving the desired goal. The purpose of this study was to analyze the nutritional knowledge of the bodybuilders of the State Secretariat of Sports in the Federal District -Brasília/ DF. The study group consisted of 100 individuals of both sexes, body builders, who answered a questionnaire. The results showed that there were different goals with the practice of weight training, 38% (n = 38) individuals were intended to increase lean body mass and improve physical fitness, 43% (n = 43) lose weight and improve fitness, 6% (n = 6) only improve fitness and 13% (n =13) had other objectives, to prepare the muscles for another type of sport. As for nutrition, 90% believed that the type of food influencedinthe result of training, 8% believed that there was no influence and 2% did not know. With respect to food, theyshowed some knowledge regarding the identification of food sources of macronutrients, but a little or none knowledge about micronutrients. However, 70% saw no need for the use of dietary supplements and 99% thought it important to receive nutritional counseling provided by a qualified professional, like a nutritionist. The results showed that the practitioners of strengthtrainingof the secretariatof state of the sports from federal districtrequire a program of nutrition education and adoption of measures to improve knowledge about nutrition for the practice of physical activity.
