Evaluation of the use of dietary supplements in academies from Guará-DF
Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the consumption of dietary supplements in the academies from Guara -DF. Materials and Methods: This transversal study was conducted with students enrolled inacademies of the Guarátown,in a period from 10/10/2011 to 30/11/2011.A sample consisted of 110 individuals of both sexes. All participants signed an informed consent. Results: We studied 110 people, 86 reported using some type of supplement, and themost used supplementwasthewhey protein 62 (75%). However, whenthey areaskedabout who indicatesthe use of supplements, there was a tie for 28th (34%),indicated by nutritionist and own initiative. The reason for supplement use was that 62 (75%) seek to increase muscle mass. Discussion: Come growing among people who practice physical activity inside the gym the finding that men use more supplements than women. This isin line with other studies showing that males are the largest consumers of supplements. There are several reasons why the consumption of nutritional supplements for physically active, these include the increase muscle mass and increase energy and athletic performance; reason that could justify the use of amino acids and proteinas theproducts with more consumption. Conclusion: Based on various studies, we can see that it is ever-increasing use of nutritional supplements by practitioners of physical exercise. Every day a growing number of products that suggest many benefits in sports, however, are few that have scientifically proven effects.
