Evaluation of anthropometric and dietary intake of practicing kung fu academy Valinhos -SP
Abstract
Introduction: Martial arts practitioners promote their many benefits, both physical and mental health. Objective: To evaluate dietary and anthropometric characteristics of practitioners of a kung fu academy in Valinhos-SP. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 40 practitioners of both genders, between 18 and 30 years. Anthropometric measurements were taken: weight, height, skinfold thickness and girth. Laterwas applied food recall 3 days 24 hours. Were analyzed the data in Avanutri software, Excel and SPSS. The protocol was approved by the Ethics in Research/UNIP with registration 048/2011. Results: 65% of participants were male and 35% female. It was foundin men of middle age, height, weight and body mass index (BMI): 23.69 years, 1.76±0.06m, 71.01±9.39kg and 23.04±2.35kg/m (eutrophic), respectively. In women were found the following average results: 22.79 years, 1.70±0.08m, 66.40±11.56kg and BMI 23.08±3.29kg/m (eutrophic). The average fat percentage for men was10.85±4.88% and female17.73±4.37%, both ranked among "good" or "excellent”. The dietary evaluations characteristics of dietary intake of athletes hypoglycemic diet(47.6% of the total energy intake), high protein (1.30g/kg/day) and lipids (35.61% of total energy intake). Conclusions: Although the results are within normal anthropometric, dietary assessments howed the need for a nutrition education programon the importance of a balanced diet and proper practicing kung fu.
