The level of knowledge of the information on supplementation and feeding used by individuals frecuent of academy of different social levels in the city of Sete Lagoas - Minas Gerais
Abstract
The available growing number of supplements in the market associated with the appropriated feeding mania and the individuals’ increase desire for a perfect aesthetics, arose the interest for the study of the knowledge about use of food and supplement in several social levels in gymnasiums in the city of Sete Lagoas. The use of the supplements and “food” by individuals who work out in gymnasiums has been a frequent and improper habit in several social levels. The rules for that population’s use of supplements has not been well defined and it is disproportional to the constant use for the individual that is between the sedentary and athletics. In a sample of 35 individuals of the 05 evaluated gymnasiums in the city of Sete Lagoas in 2004-2005, 71% were men and 29% women among 23 to 26 years old and family income above 05 minimum wages (60%). Of that sample 46% consumed supplements and the type of these in 71% were not correlated to the presented in the work. In the studied population 63% modified his/her feeding according to the practiced physical activity objective. Summing up, the use of supplements in that population is not significant and there is not an agreement in the type of used supplement. As regards the social differences, it is not noticed conflicting variations among the evaluated individuals and that the acquired food is compatible with the income.
