Evaluation of percentage of weight loss and sweating rate after fighters training in a São Paulo gym
Abstract
Aim: To investigate changes in body weight and verify the presence of dehydration in adult men practicing struggles during training in a academia. Materials and Methods: 51 fighters from 19 to 50 years were included, amateurs and male competitors, practitioners fights as Muay Thai, Boxing, Karate and Jiu-Jitsu. Information such as age, type of fighting practiced, frequency and duration of training were collected. In addition, a standardized questionnaire of symptoms of thirst and analysis of water loss and sweat rate during training was applied. The amount and typeof fluid intake during trainingwas measured. Were considered ‘well hydrated’fighters who showed weight loss of less than 1% in the end of the training. Results: The mean age of participants was 28.8 years and 49% were Thai boxers. Athletes with higher sweat rate (9.58 mL / min) and a higher percentage of weight loss (-0.73%) were the boxers. Discussion: All fighters were considered "well hydrated" post workout because there was less than 1% water loss. About 55% of the athletes reported consuming liquidsonly after you feel thirsty. Conclusion: The fighters showed no dehydration during their training and most have not demonstrated habit to drink fluids during workouts.
