Nutritional and anthropometric profile of ballet practitioners
Abstract
The objective of this proper was to analyze the nutritional and anthropometric profile of 24 female teenagers who dance ballet, at the age of 10 to 18 years old, in the town of Betim, MG. The data were obtained through the 24-hour recall method and the following measures: weight, height, BMI, circumferences and skinfold. It was noticed that 50% of the teenagers presented insufficient energetic consumption, although more than half of them has a proper consumption of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. Considering fibers, it was detected that 100% of the girls presented lower intake than the amount recommended by the DRI. Regarding the micronutrients, such as, calcium, iron, zinc and vitamin A, we could note that more than 50% of them presented lower consumption. Taking into account the vitamin C, we could observe that most of the girls had a higher intake. Through BMI measures, it was detected a predomination of normal range girls, 91.66%, and the percentage of fat was also suitable for them, 58.33%. We can conclude from this study that the teenagers` nutritional pattern may be related to health risks. Some nutritional guidance is necessary in order to improve their eating habits. This way they might keep healthy and improve their performance in the ballet practice.
