Evaluation of nutrition knowledge and supplementation by gym goers and studios of city João Monlevade-MG
Abstract
Introduction: There has been a growing appreciation of targeted exercises and nutrition aimed at achieving predetermined goals, reaching the mainstream media, which in turntends to spread information, sometimes misleading. Therefore, there is the need for further studies to understand how this newimpactson individuals and that the actual knowledge of these, about such matters, seeking to assess the knowledge of the active population, aboutthe sports nutrition. Methods: It was conductedexploratory research applying in various gyms and studios in the city of João Monlevade a questionnaire modified from the questionnaire created by Bassit and Malverdi, 1998; and Juzwiak, 2001. To analyze the data we used the EPI Info version 3.5.2. Discussion: Ergogenic resources aimed at maximizing results, has also been used. When the sources used to directchanges in lifestyle are not qualified,may culminate in erroneous or misinterpreting information. Results: The predominant age range of 19 to 35 years and males was observed. There are low adherence to physical evaluation; the main exercise is practiced bodybuilding. About 70% of respondents supplement mainly protein and carbohydrates. Nutritional guidelines are also sought. Conclusion: The studied population suffers little influence of mass media, seeking guidance from nutritionists, however, still seeking the trainers such information.
