Association enters the dietary factors used in the prevention and treatment of heart diseases with the profit of body weight
Abstract
The goal of this study was toevaluate the association between foods used in prevention and treatment of heart diseases and body weight gain. Methodology: a hundred and fifty two individuals of both sexes, from Montenegro, RS, have been studied and participated of the communitarian project Viva Bairro. Their age ranged from 20 to 79 years old. The individuals had passed for anthropometric evaluation (weight, stature and waist circumference), in order to determine Body Mass Index (BMI) and cardiac risk. They were also interviewed about the knowledge of dietary sources used in prevention and treatment of heart diseases and the association with the consumption of these sources with body weight increase. Results: it was verified that great part (%) of the studied individuals is above thenormal weight and has agreater risk of cardiovascular illness. Also, the majority (%) associated the beneficialfoods to the heart, the foodrich in monounsaturated fats and some foods rich in soluble fibers with the body weight gain. Conclusion: the studied population has incorrect concepts about monounsaturated fats food sources and soluble fibers, which shows the necessity of more programs to clarify and inform the population on these aspects.
