GRACIE, Rorion. The Gracie Diet: the champion's secret. São Paulo: Benvirá, 2012. A starting point for an epistemological analysis of Nutrition Science
Abstract
The Gracie family is world-renowned for their achievements in the martial arts world. Carlos and Hélio Gracie were the precursors of jiu jitsu, a martial art that proved to be fundamental in the composition of the range of weapons necessary for efficient self-defense. However, the subject of this review is not exactly jiu jitsu, but the peculiar way of combining foods that was developed by Carlos Gracie, which was later named "Dieta Gracie". Rorion Gracie, who was the main creator of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a martial arts competition in which practitioners of different martial arts face each other in order to prove the efficiency of their respective techniques, published in Brazil in 2012 the book "A Dieta Gracie". According to Rorion, Carlos Gracie, who was not a doctor, developed the principles of the Diet by studying books by specialists on the subject and carrying out experiments with his own family members.
