Effects of consumption of omega-3 supplementation and practice of physical exercise in prevention and treatment of depression
Abstract
Introduction: Depression is a major public health problem in the world, reaching approximately 17% of the world population. The most important treatment for depression is the use of drugs. Currently, the market more than eight classes of antidepressants, but 75% of depressive patients do not have answers. For these patients is recommended the combination of antidepressants than the other methods, such as physical activity and supplementation of omega-3. The study aims to review the literature and the effects of consumption of omega-3 supplementation and practice of physical exercise in prevention and treatment of depression. Development: Studies show that there is a higher ratio of consumption or supplementation of omega-3 in the treatment of depression among women, others found no benefits. Positive effects were observed between the treatment of depression and practice of physical exercises without the use of antidepressants. Conclusion: We conclude that omega-3 and exercise can be important aids to pharmacological treatment. Studies are needed crossing of information consumption or supplementation of omega-3, physical exercise and antidepressants to treat depression.
