Nutritional supplements for use by adolescents gym in the country and São Paulo capital.
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the use of nutritional supplements and compare data among adolescents of the interior and São Paulo. Materials and Methods: The total population was composed by 151 adolescents including the sample of interior and São Paulo. For data collection, it was used a form with issues relevant to the study. The parametric analysis was performed by t student test (p<0.05). Results: When comparing the use of supplements among the samples there was no difference (p = 0.86). The most used type of supplement was protein (37.36% interior and 36.67% São Paulo). The physical educators are the main source of supplementation indication (28.57% interior and 31.67% São Paulo). When we compared the group in relation to the indication by nutritionist, there was statistical difference (p = 0.0114), i.e., 28.57% interior and 10% in São Paulo. Discussion: Although the comparison of the groups interior and São Paulo in relation to the use of supplements did not show difference (p = 0.86), when analyzing only the variable "use" there was a significant percentage of 50.55% and 53.33%. The increase in muscle mass was the item most referenced in our samples. Conclusion: Due to the high consumption of nutritional supplements by adolescents in this study, it is important to make broader studies on this consumption exacerbated.
