Abstract
Introduction: The volleyball athlete needs a diet to meet their nutritional needs, so that they may have muscular strength and endurance to withstand the pace of training and games. For athletes, the ideal body allows betterperformance at sports, thus they begin to suffer with body standard requirements imposed by the coaches, family and society. Objective: To investigate the association between body (in) satisfaction, nutritional status and consumption of macronutrients in players of a female volleyball team participating in competitions nationwide. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study, 16 female athletes were evaluated, aged between 14 and 16, summoned by the Gaucha Selection of Volleyball of the infant category. The participants underwent weight, height, triceps and subscapular skinfold check, responded to socioeconomic questionnaire, food record of three nonconsecutive days and scale of figures to assess dissatisfaction with body image. Results: Although there was no significant result (p 0.05), athletes who showed themselves dissatisfied with their body image (87.5%) had a mean body mass index of 22.62 ± 2.19Kg / m² and fat percentage of 24.5 ± 2.74%. The intake of carbohydrate, lipid, and, consequently, the total caloric intake were lower in athletes who were dissatisfied with their body image in the three days evaluated, and protein intake was higher among this group of athletes, only in the training day. Conclusion: It was found that there was no relation betweennutritional status and body dissatisfaction, however that was relation between intake of macronutrients and body dissatisfaction.
