Hydric loss and sweating rate after Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu training in an academy in São Paulo State
Abstract
Introduction: Physical activity induces an increase in body temperature and if there is no replacement of fluids and electrolytes after exercise, dehydration will occur causing the body presents a greater risk of loss of strength, cramps and hyperthermia, a loss in performance. Dehydration interferes with sweating, temperature regulation, strength and endurance, coupled with the interest of the struggles of practitioners, these commitments can be avoided by fluid replacement. Objective: To demonstrate the changes in body weight influenced by dehydration in male individuals, before and after training Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu in a gym in São Paulo. Methods: We included amateur fighters and competitors males, fights practitioners as Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu. Two techniques were applied to assess the presence of dehydration: anthropometric data, especially initial weight and final weight and the amount and type of fluid consumed during training in order to determine hydration status and the sweat rate of athletes. Development: It was observed that the amount of water ingested by the fighters was negligible. In this study the percentage of weight loss was approximately 0.6 with a significant loss, but stopped short of 2%, which would hinder the performance of the fighters. Conclusion: It can be observed that the Muay Thai practitioners and Jiu-Jitsu did not drink enough water and most of them are unaware of the importance of hydrate yourself properly.
