Anthropometric profile, food and nutrition knowledge of volleyball athletes
Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the anthropometric profile and food and knowledge of power volleyball athletes in the city of Bento Gonçalves - RS. The sample consisted of 12 volleyball athletes of the professional category of benedict's Volleyball team in the city of Bento Gonçalves - RS, with a mean age of 32 ± 4,31 years. In anthropometric assessment, it was evaluated total body mass, height, circumference and skinfold thickness. Dietary assessment was performed using the food self -registration during four days a week. To evaluate the nutritional knowledge was used a validated questionnaire. Data were expressed as mean and standard deviation or median and interquartile range according to the distribution of variables and analyzed by SPSS software version 19.0. Anthropometric results showed that athletes had an average of 92,86 ± 11,44 kg of total body mass, 194 ± 11 cm in height and 60,25 ± 17,78 mm in sum of skinfolds. The dietary evaluation showed an inadequate consumption of carbohydrates and lipids, plus a low calorie intake and protein was adequate. Regarding the data obtained with the nutritional knowledge questionnaire it was observed that athletes have a poor nutritional knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary individualized nutritional orientation to correct the dietary inadequacies observed, improving physical performance and quality of life.
