Analysis of nutritional intervention and physical exercise in adults participants of a loss weight program in a gym placed in Goiânia – GO
Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the efficiency of a weight-loss program, developed in a gym placed in Goiânia – Go, including overweight adults who followed diet prescription and physical exercise training by comparing initial and final body composition. Methods: The study consisted of eight women and ten men who were from 21 to 46 years old. Hypocaloric diet was prescribed and anthropometric evaluation (weight, height, skinfolds and perimetry) was done in the beginning and after 8 weeks. The exercise training, which included aerobic and strength exercises, occurred three times a week. Results: After four and eight weeks the group demonstrated significant (P < 0.05) reduction in body weight. A significant increase in %lean body mass was observed in men regarding only the eight weeks of program. However in women, this occurred after one month and at the end of the program. From the beginning until the fourth week, there was significant fat mass loss in the women group and from the beginning until the eighth week this happened in both groups. Discussion: The results of the present study supported the hypothesis that the program would lead to a weight and %fat mass loss mainly in the first month and considering the whole treatment. Conclusion: Exercise associated with individual hypocaloric diet is efficient to increase lean mass, decrease % fat mass, and to favor the weight loss.
