Suplementación con beta-alanina en el rendimiento deportivo: una revisión sistemática

Resumen

La beta-alanina es un aminoácido precursor de la carnosina que recibe atención en publicaciones científicas como suplemento capaz de mejorar el rendimiento deportivo. La suplementación con beta-alanina proporciona un aumento en las reservas musculares de carnosina, lo que da como resultado una amortiguación efectiva, especialmente durante el ejercicio de alta intensidad. Por lo tanto, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión sistemática sobre el efecto de la suplementación con beta-alanina en el rendimiento deportivo. Después de definir los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se incluyeron en esta revisión sistemática 24 estudios aleatorios controlados con placebo recientes. De estos, 18 mostraron resultados positivos de la suplementación de este aminoácido en el rendimiento. En nuestro estudio, podemos concluir que la suplementación con beta-alanina puede contribuir al rendimiento deportivo, especialmente en actividades de alta intensidad y corta duración. Se ha demostrado que la suplementación crónica con beta-alanina con dosis que oscilan principalmente entre 2,4 y 6,4 gramos por día durante 4 a 12 semanas es eficaz en el rendimiento. A pesar de varios estudios relacionados con la efectividad del uso de beta-alanina y el efecto amortiguador de la carnosina muscular, se necesitan más estudios para evaluar las diferentes respuestas que pueden ocurrir, especialmente considerando las diferencias entre hombres y mujeres, diferentes grupos de edad, tipos de diferentes ejercicios, dosis y duraciones.
