Influencia del jugo de remolacha sobre las concentraciones de lactato en sangre en practicantes de ejercicio físico: una revisión narrativa

Resumen

Introducción: El interés por el jugo de remolacha como suplemento ha crecido en la Nutrición Deportiva, ya que parece aportar efectos ergogénicos sobre el rendimiento del ejercicio físico debido a su contenido en nitratos inorgánicos, favoreciendo un aumento de la concentración plasmática de óxido nítrico. Por tanto, el objetivo de esta revisión es describir y sintetizar la información disponible sobre los posibles efectos de la suplementación con jugo de remolacha sobre la concentración de lactato en sangre en practicantes de ejercicio físico. Materiales y métodos: La búsqueda se realizó en las siguientes bases de datos: PubMed, Biblioteca Científica Electrónica (SciELO) y Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (Lilacs), a través de la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS), con la estrategia de búsqueda: “lactato” Y “remolacha”, con descriptores en portugués, inglés y español. Resultados y conclusión: Inicialmente se encontraron 38 estudios, quedando 15 luego de utilizar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. De estos, el 80% (n=12) no demostró cambios significativos en las concentraciones de lactato en sangre de los participantes, mientras que el 13,3% (n=2) indicó un aumento y el 6,25% (n=1) indicó alguna reducción. En cuanto a los efectos positivos, el 66,7% (n=10) de los estudios indicaron, al menos, una mejora en las variables relacionadas con el desempeño. Por tanto, se necesitan más estudios que aborden la suplementación con jugo de remolacha en practicantes de ejercicio físico. Principalmente en relación a la estandarización de dosis para lograr los beneficios esperados y protocolos de suplementación que tengan en cuenta la modalidad deportiva, la duración, la intensidad del entrenamiento y otros factores.
