Suplementos de creatina y posibles efectos secundarios

Resumen

La creatina es un suplemento popular utilizado por atletas profesionales, aficionados, practicantes de deportes recreativos, en un esfuerzo por aumentar en el músculo mayores reservas de fosfocreatina para construir y proporcionar energía extra en forma de trifosfato de adenosina, con el objetivo de mejorar el rendimiento en modalidades de alta intensidad. y corta duración. El propósito de este estudio es evaluar la literatura sobre los posibles efectos de la suplementación con creatina sobre la función renal, hepática, síntomas gastrointestinales, efectos cardiovasculares y agotamiento térmico. Se realizó una búsqueda en pubmed para identificar artículos relevantes utilizando palabras clave como: creatina, suplementación, riesgo. De acuerdo con la literatura existente, la suplementación con creatina parece ser segura cuando es utilizada por adultos sanos en la dosis recomendada (20 g por día divididos en 5 g durante 5 días) y en una dosis de mantenimiento de (5 g por día). En personas con antecedentes de enfermedad renal, enfermedad hepática, síntomas gastrointestinales, la creatina puede estar asociada con un mayor riesgo de estas enfermedades y síntomas. Además, no se ha establecido la seguridad de la suplementación con creatina en niños, mujeres embarazadas y lactantes. La falta de efectos adversos no significa seguridad, ya que aún se necesita investigación para investigar los efectos a largo plazo de la suplementación con creatina. Y su prescripción debe ser hecha por profesionales especializados, determinando la dosis recomendada, el fabricante, orientando los posibles efectos secundarios, y si el individuo es capaz de utilizar la creatina.
