Cuestionarios de frecuencia alimentaria: consideraciones para el deporte

Resumen

El Cuestionario de frecuencia de alimentos (FFQ) se usa ampliamente en epidemiología nutricional para investigar dietas pasadas. Permite analizar relaciones causales entre alimentos y enfermedades o trastornos nutricionales. se utiliza para caracterizar la dieta habitual de grupos de población o individuos, aportando información cualitativa y cuantitativa, con la ventaja de ser de bajo coste. En esta revisión pretendemos explorar las posibilidades de aplicar el FFQ en la nutrición deportiva. Observamos en la literatura científica actual que los FFQ se han aplicado en diferentes ocasiones involucrando a atletas tales como: Ajuste de la ingesta dietética en función del volumen de entrenamiento; Evaluación de la influencia de la dieta en biomarcadores de salud; Evaluación de la ingesta de nutrientes específicos. La información obtenida con los FFQ actuales aplicados a deportistas fue relativamente válida, pero se desarrollaron muy pocos FFQ considerando las particularidades de este subgrupo poblacional. Concluimos que el FFQ se puede aplicar de diferentes maneras en el deporte y puede ser útil como una indagación sobre diferentes enfoques nutricionales entre los atletas. Sin embargo, para una mayor fiabilidad de las respuestas, es necesario utilizar FFQs debidamente validados para la población deportista.
