La vitamina D nello sport e nella salute

Abstract

La carnosina è un dipeptide composto dagli amminoacidi beta-alanina e istidina che si trovano principalmente nel tessuto muscolare. La sua sintesi avviene attraverso l'enzima carnosina sintasi con beta alanina come precursore limitante. Gli studi hanno dimostrato che l'aumento dei livelli di carnosina migliora le prestazioni sportive, a causa della riduzione della diminuzione del pH intramuscolare durante l'esercizio, fornendo una maggiore capacità tampone degli ioni idrogeno (H+). Lo scopo della presente revisione era di analizzare gli studi relativi agli effetti della supplementazione cronica di beta-alanina sulle prestazioni sportive negli ultimi anni. La strategia di ricerca è stata effettuata consultando le banche dati PubMed e Trip, utilizzando in modo combinato i descrittori “carnosina”, “beta-alanina” ed “esercizio” in articoli pubblicati tra gennaio 2007 e dicembre 2013. Sono stati inseriti solo articoli originali in sono state escluse le analisi e gli articoli che hanno valutato un campione malsano, la supplementazione di beta-alanina associata ad altre sostanze, oltre a tesi, dissertazioni e articoli di revisione. Sulla base delle informazioni raccolte, riteniamo che l'integrazione di beta-alanina possa essere considerata una strategia efficace per aumentare i livelli di carnosina, riflettendo nel miglioramento delle prestazioni attraverso un aumento del tempo all'esaurimento e un ritardo nella soglia di affaticamento neuromuscolare, presentando effetti migliori nelle attività ad alta intensità.
