Effetto della supplementazione di beta-alanina sulle prestazioni: una revisione critica

Abstract

La beta-alanina è un aminoacido non proteogeno che limita la sintesi della carnosina. L'aumento della carnosina muscolare è stato considerato un fattore di rafforzamento delle capacità fisiche e di diminuzione dell'affaticamento neuromuscolare. In questo contesto è stato frequentemente descritto l'uso della beta-alanina come coadiuvante ergogenico. Pertanto, la presente revisione mirava ad analizzare le principali indagini direttamente correlate agli effetti della supplementazione di beta-alanina sulle prestazioni sportive, nonché a stabilire linee guida adeguate per chiarire il dosaggio di integrazione che promuove risultati positivi riducendo al minimo le possibili avversità. La revisione della letteratura ha incluso pubblicazioni nazionali e internazionali, con date comprese tra gennaio 1990 e maggio 2017, nelle banche dati elettroniche: Elsevier, Medline, Pubmed, Scopus, Sportdiscus e Web of Science. Le parole chiave utilizzate nella ricerca sono state incluse nel Thesaurus Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) sviluppato dagli Stati Uniti. Biblioteca Nazionale di Medicina. La maggior parte degli studi sostiene che l'integrazione di una media di 6,4 g/die di beta-alanina può migliorare le prestazioni in esercizi ad alta intensità e di breve durata.
